Early morning canoe exploration on Wonder Lake

Leave the road to experience Denali in a whole new way

About 1,000 climbers attempt the ascent of Mt. McKinley every year. Far more choose to experience Denali National Park and its surroundings by hiking and camping, by rafting the Nenana River or on a flightseeing trip. Mountaineers and flightseers experience the true measure of this enormous mountain in a way that can scarcely be imagined from the park road.

Several rafting outfitters offer river trips of varying lengths and intensity, from 2-hour scenic floats to full day or overnight whitewater expeditions. Some offer paddle rafts or inflatable kayaks, too.

Flightseeing excursions by helicopter or fixed wing aircraft explore Denali's peaks and glaciers. Popular options: circumnavigating the mountain, flying over the summit or landing on a glacier.
